Meet Gordon

Hello, I’m Gordon McDowell.

I’m an independent Landscape Designer for AG, specialising in Traditional Landscape drawings.

My background…

I studied Landscape Architecture at Gloucestershire College of Art and Design, Cheltenham. Prior to providing my own Consultancy services, I was formerly Technical Director of Landscape / Environmental Planning with RPS (NI) Ltd, as well as having worked with many bodies including the Department of Housing and the Southern Education and Library Board. Over the years, my experience has been applied to an extensive number of projects in tourism, industrial and housing sectors.

What I specialise in…

Through ‘The Room Outside’ Landscape Design & Environmental Planning, I provide innovative practical and sustainable solutions for both large and small scale projects. The service includes Landscape Design; ‘Soft Landscape’ Planting Design, Schedules and Cost Estimates, and Site supervision.

Top tip for my clients…

Fall in Love with your Outside Rooms – ‘Kiss’ for success. (‘Kiss’ Keep It Simple, Stupid!) is a classic principle, that is adopted across the Design professions.

Design is not just about how it looks, but more importantly how it works. Clever design can totally change the appearance of a space, adding variety and interest; whilst solving problems and creating opportunities. In simple terms, once the ‘concept’ for the space has been developed, ‘furnish’ it with a small palette of suitable hard and soft materials, to achieve maximum impact and ensure success.
